Martorano’s at the Rio is hosting the inaugural Masters Meatball Eating Championships at high noon. The event features #1 ranked Joey “Jaws” Chestnut, holder of three July 4th hot-dog-eating contests, and Chef Steve Martorano’s famous giant meatballs in a 10-minute gorge. The public is encouraged to attend and admission is free.

They’ll put a wrap on the Vegas Valley Book Festival today with a special screening of “Ragtime” at 2 pm at the Clark County Library (E Flamingo).  E.L. Docktorow – author of the novel that inspired the film – will deliver the festival’s closing keynote at 7 pm at the same location. Admission is free.
