Las Vegas Freebies Today – 12/31/09
It’s finally time to kick 2009 to the curb and Las Vegas is ready to ring in the new decade with a vengeance.
Here’s a sample of some of the free parties you’ll find around town. Check out our party planner for the low down on the best of the rest.
The fireworks show has been moved back to the rooftops. Seven casinos will participate in the 7-minute show. [BTW that’s one less launch point and one less minute than last year, if you’re wondering about the affect of the economy on the fireworks portion of tonight’s festivities.]
If you plan on partying on The Strip, make sure you get to where you’re going early. Traffic restrictions will begin at around 5 pm when the I-15 exits and onramps at Tropicana, Flamingo, Spring Mountain Rd and Harmon Ave will be closed. Cars will not be allowed on Las Vegas Boulevard from Russell Road to Sahara until around 3 am.
If you’re on the street, make sure your drink of choice is in a plastic container because aluminum cans and glass bottles will not be allowed. And law enforcement is asking all attendees to refrain from carrying large back or backpacks.
7 Eleven is offering a free 12-oz cup of coffee (or any hot beverage of your choice) to all customers from midnight until 6 am. Just look for the display card on the counter of participating locations to get your late night caffeine fix.
And there’s just no excuse to drink and drive because the Regional Transportation Commission has authorized free bus service throughout the Las Vegas Valley starting at 6 pm this evening until 9 am tomorrow morning. You’ll find more information about this service and route detours at the RTC website.
However you choose to spend your New Year’s Eve, Go Las Vegas Baby wishes everyone a happy and safe celebration and best wishes for 2010.
